P.S. For the next several weeks we will greet each other during morning meeting by saying "hello" or "good morning" in other languages. If you wish to share your family's language with our class, please e-mail me or send in a note with the name of the language, what the greeting means, and how to pronounce it. We look forward to learning many languages!
P.P.S. Hoops for Heart will be held on Tuesday, January 22nd from 12:50-1:30 in the gym. Help your child to wear red next Tuesday. Parents and siblings are invited to attend!

Phonics - Unit 7
- glued sounds (ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, unk)
- tapping, spelling, and reading words with glued sounds
- reading and spelling new trick words: why, by, my, try, put, two, too, also, very
- a trick for finding rhyming words
- alphabetical (ABC) order
- writing complete sentences with capital letters and end marks
- practicing our full names with a capital letter at the beginning of our first and last name
- the C/K rule (words beginning with a k are followed by i & e; words beginning with a c are followed by a, o, u)
Math - Unit 4
- identifying teen numbers as a ten and some extra ones
- using a 10x10 grid to show the ten and extra ones in teen numbers
- solving addition story problems to find teen totals
- representing 2-digit numbers as tens and ones (sticks and circles)
- practicing the "make a ten" strategy to solve an addition equation (9+6 is the same as 10+5)
- practicing doubles facts
- using counting cubes to model the addition strategy: “doubles +/- 1 and +/- 2”
- reading and writing numerals and number words
- playing the math game: Roll to 120
Science
- identifying objects that do and do not produce light
- science terms: reflect, transparent, translucent, and opaque
- what objects reflect light best
- exploring materials that allow all light to pass through, some light to pass through, or block/redirect all light
- discussing what light and sound have in common (forms of energy, both travel in waves)
Social Studies
